SIGMA fp Style 05

In my artworks, I create concepts based on photographic principles. Understanding photographic paper as a medium which creates colors and shapes based on chemical reactions, and digital photography as a medium that is transferred onto photographic paper as ink pigments, I move freely between these fields based on the theme of the shoot and try to explore the possibilities of photography.

When I tried out the SIGMA fp, I first noticed its square shape and graceful appearance. The body itself is neither too heavy nor too light, resulting in a camera that is very easy to take with you anywhere you go. I’m also very happy that I will get to use my L-mount lenses again soon.

I took the camera with me on a shoot in Marrakesh in Morocco. I could take all photos exactly as I wanted very quickly, with a camera so light that I at times almost forgot I had it on me. Also, while the fp uses a full-frame sensor, the image files are exactly right in size—not too huge and not too small either.

I’ve used FOVEON cameras before and liked them for their unique character and the high details of their images, but shooting hand-held required a lot of preparation, making them difficult cameras to use. In contrast, the SIGMA fp is a breeze to shoot with hand-held. I’d love to put a SIGMA strobe on top of it and try a few experiments with the camera the next time.

In the short time with the SIGMA fp, I have already had countless ideas for new images. But I don’t want to talk about them here—I will express these ideas in future works instead. In short, they are ideas that are only possible with this particular camera. I think anyone who tries out this camera will experience the widened possibility space for themselves.
